Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah, is an American rapper singer. Queen Latifah's career in music film and television has earned her the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award and six more Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, and Rita who was a educator at Irvington High School. Their divorce occurred in the year Latifah was ten. Latifah lived within the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah was her stage name when she was eight years old. The word means extremely fragile in Arabic. Latifah, who was 5'10" tall forward on her high school team was always tall. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in a performance at her highschool. Latifah was a beatboxer in the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was among the members of the original form of Flavor Unit which at that time was a crew of MCs grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded a demo recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps which is hosted by Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music, who worked for Latifah in the early days and was awed by the single. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
